The national para powerlifting team has presented the 9 medals they won in its first mandatory qualifier for the 2024 Paralympic Games to Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif.
The team was accompanied by Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana. He is also the President of the African Paralympic Committee.
Unstoppable female powerlifter Patricia Nyamekye won two gold medals at the just-ended 2022 Open Para Powerlifting Championship in Egypt.
Evergreen Emmanuel Nii Tetteh Oku won two gold medals and two silver medals. He also recorded the best lift in the entire competition.
Hard-working Tahiru Haruna, who failed to make it to the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, came back strongly, winning a silver and bronze medal in the 107kg category.
Receiving the medals at the Ministry of Youth and Sports , Mustapha Ussif praised the the team for their awe-inspiring performance in Egypt and promised them of his outfit’s continuous support.
The next 2024 Paralympic Games qualifier for the Ghana’s powerlifting team will come off in Dubai.
