Information reaching The Chronicle indicates that police in Burkina Faso have arrested suspected terrorists who were allegedly hiding in Ghana.
It is alleged that the supposed terrorists, who were hiding at Fatchu, in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region were lured to Pusinka, a border town in Burkina Faso and arrested.
The Burkinabe police confirmed the arrest when this reporter and his source spoke to them through a conference call. The conversation was in Moshie language, which this reporter does not speak, but the source, who is fluent in the dialect, quoted them (police) as saying that the suspected terrorists have been on their radar for a long time.
According to the Burkina Faso police, some of the suspected criminals were arrested and upon interrogation, they (terrorists) claimed some of their colleagues were in Ghana.
The police then used those who have been arrested to lure their counterparts in Ghana to cross the border into Burkina Faso.
Upon arrival in Burkina Faso, on a Ghanaian registered motorbike, they were quickly arrested and detained.
According to the police, in the French speaking country, a search conducted in the hide out of the suspects led to the retrieval of mobile phones and a Electoral Commission of Ghana voter identity card. The police also found pictures of suspected terrorists on the seized mobile phones of the suspects.
The police further alleged that the name of the suspected terrorist on the Ghanaian voter ID card, which was issued on July 9, 2020 in the Offinso North district of the Ashanti Region, is Abdulai Ibrahim.
However, the suspect is known in Burkina Faso as Diallo Noufou. The police would, however, not give further detailed information on all the suspects, insisting that the police in Ghana did not play any role in their arrests.
The police in Upper West will officially not comment on the development, but a source confided in The Chronicle that they are aware of the arrest in Burkina Faso and that, since it was not carried out on Ghanaian soil, no official report has been filed.
