Obviously, the Kumasi Wesley Girls contestants failed to take inspiration from their own school motto, ‘arise and shine’ when it mattered most on the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) stage.
Right from the first round, they started the competition with -3 and doubled their negative points in round two, making -6 points in total.
It was only in the third round featuring the problem of the day that contestants of Kumasi Wesley Girls managed to score four points, what many NSMQ enthusiasts say was a mere luck.

Was it just a bad day or things just didn’t work in their favour? While Abetifi Presby SHS and Sonrise Christian High School were scoring 41 and 28 points, respectively, the Kumasi girls were dripped in sweats of disappointment with a negative score.
They scored a riddle correctly in the last round and eventually ended the contest with two points. Abetifi Presby SHS and Sonrise Christian High School amassed 50 points and 28 points, respectively.
One wonders if Kumasi Wesley Girls’ High School was really in for any competition or showed up because they made it to the one-eighth stage.

“It is allowed to make every mistake in life but not that of sending your girl child to girls’ school in Kumasi. Case study; St. Louis, Kumasi Wesley Girls, Yaa Asantewaa,” this comment is among hundreds of trolls on twitter making fun of the school’s poor performance.
It was a tough time filled with uneasiness and embarrassment for many of the supporters and fans of the school.
Their abysmal performance has left them being trolled and trending on Twitter, with some saying unlike the Wesley Girls’ High School in the Central Region, they are “fake.”
So after 5 whole rounds of the #nsmq Kumasi Wesley Girls had just 2 points.
What’s being thought there? pic.twitter.com/H1j3OVA0Ci— Shaidy Brown (@Mk_Shadrach) October 15, 2022
Meanwhile, Yaa Asantewaa Girls and St. Louis SHSs are schools in the Ashanti Region that have exited the contest, although with better scores than what ‘K Wey Gey Hey’ got.
Below are some reactions:
They should just merge St Louis with Yaa Asantewaa Girls and Kumasi Wesley Girls in one bus back home
