This year’s edition of the football gala competition by local teams every December, at Kotei in the Oforikrom constituency, in Kumasi, promise to be historic.

The space for the Astro Turf project at Kotei

Mr. Alex Anim Boateng, Project Manager of Best Construction Company, which is undertaking the project, has assured that with the resolution of the initial bottlenecks and delays, the company would complete the project for the event.

The facility, sited at Kotei, and also dubbed as the Oforikrom project, is intended to be the biggest Astro Turf in the Ashanti region because it would create space for important matches and sporting activities and serve other constituencies.

He explained that the company is not facing any pressure from any quarters; hence all their materials are ready for the project to be completed by the close of the year.

The project is being funded by the Ghana Gas Company Limited, which is obliged to help, upon a request by Mrs. Claudia Abena Kwarteng Lumor,the UN Ambassador (UNFPA) in Ghana.

She expressed her gratitude to the traditional leaders for the release of the land for the project, which she noted would go a long way to help develop the interest of the youth in sports in the area.

Mrs. Claudia Abena Kwarteng Lumor, who is also the Founder and Editor-in-chief of Glitz Africa magazine, said the project is expected to help reduce youth indulgence in crime because it would serve as are creational centre for the youth.

She has led key fundraising and projects for UNFPA, as their Good will Ambassador.

She has demonstrated her passion for women and children’s advocacy by spearheading various donation drives to female head porters, orphans and fistula victims among others.

In another development, Officials from the National Sports Authority(NSA) have called on the Chief of Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano SouthWest District to inspect a parcel of land for the construction of an Astro Turf for the people in the area.

It follows the appeal by Nana AduPako, Akwamuhene of Mankranso recently, to Professor Peter Twumasi, the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), who is a native of the  area, to putup an AstroTurf park for the youth in the district.

Nana SafreAduSampaneAmankwatia, chief of Mankranso, thanked the National Sports Authority team, led by the Regional Director of NSA,Mr. Emmanuel Kojo Appiah, for the quick response to their appeal and to access the land for the proposed Astro Turf project.

The chief advised the youth to take very good care of facility when completed, to serve as a monument in the district.

Joseph Frimpong Boadu, the District Chief Executive of the area, called for the cooperation and support of the people to ensure its early completion for their benefit.
