The President of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, has criticised the behavior of some men who now seduce and suck the breasts of young women under the pretense that it will prevent breast cancer.
“No one can suck breast cancer from a woman’s breast,” she asserted, adding that “it’s unfortunate, to say the least, it’s very unfortunate” that men are even asking young women to come to have their breasts sucked for them.
Speaking at a NUGS breast cancer screening event held at the St. Monica’s College of Education at Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Wiafe-Addai noted that the misinformation and disinformation about the disease in the month of October is becoming too alarming and there is a need to tackle it immediately.
She also mentioned social media as one of the platforms where many young women are seriously misled, but steps are being considered to empower women so they can make the best choices under these circumstances.
“We should empower our women to take right decisions to be able to read whatever is on the social media carefully and throw away the chaff because a lot of information in there is not truthful and no woman should go and avail herself to be sucked just because she will be prevented from getting breast cancer,” Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai said.
In contrast to letting men play with their breasts, the oncologist advised the students to focus on their studies.
Ms. Jessica Twumasi, the secretary for women’s development at NUGS, said that the goal of the screening is to ensure breast cancer cases in the country are reduced.
She noted that the statistics are alarming and that there is the need to join the international effort to educate young women about the benefits of breast cancer screening.
She pleads with other organizations to engage in such efforts in order to save a great number of lives in Ghana.
The Dean of students at the College, Mrs. Akosua Baah Ani-Agyei commended the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) and the Peace and Love Hospital for their dedication to the nation’s fight against breast cancer.
She also urged the students to stop exposing their breasts for men to suck.
