The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle Constituency and Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has filed his nomination form to contest the Ellembelle parliamentary seat.
The MP, and a crowd of supporters, defied the Saturday downpour to file his nomination to contest the Ellembelle seat for the fifth time at the party’s office, amidst pomp and pageantry.
Armah-Kofi Buah first won the Ellembelle seat in 2008 after defeating Freddy Blay, the immediate National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NP), who was then the MP for the area on the ticket of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
Speaking to newsmen after filling his nomination form, the Deputy Minority Leader indicated that his motivation to contest the seat was borne out of the call from his constituents to do so in other to continue the good works he has begun in the constituency.
MP Buah used the opportunity to ‘spit fire’ on what he described as abysmal performance by the ruling government in the area of the economy, health and infrastructural development amongst others.
“The last seven years of governance has been a disaster. Almost every development project we’ve tried has come to a stop. I believe that I have earned the right to be in a position to help the District to develop, so that is why I’m running again.
“Look at the enthusiasm and the support base and I believe the people of Ellembelle want me to continue the good works I have been doing and I’m proud to serve them”, he said.
Though the Deputy Minority Leader is likely to face stiff competition from two other aspirants in the race to be elected on the ticket of the umbrella party, the Ellembelle NDC constituency Chairman and other executives told newsmen they were supporting Armah-Kofi Buah because of how well he has changed the face of Ellembelle since he became an MP.
In a related development, the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, Dorcas Affo-Toffey has also filed her nomination form to contest the May 13, 2023 primary on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The nomination form was filed by her Manager, Dr. Francis Horbah, who was accompanied by some Jomoro NDC Constituency executives at the party office.
Madam Affo-Toffey, who is seeking re-election for the second time is facing fierce competition from three other members of the party, who are yet to file their nomination forms.
The Manager, in an interview with news men indicated “we have now filed and we are waiting for the vetting process. We promise to do our best and give the maximum support she needs, thereby making her win one more time to be able to continue her good work for the people of Jomoro”.
Dr. Horbah expressed gratitude to Madam Affo-Toffey for not disappointing the constituency.
“Hon Dorcas, thank you for not disappointing us. We are proud of you. We know your second term is protected and rest assured. May God bless and protect you and give you enough strength. We can’t wait to have you lead and win you second term”.
The Assembly Member for Bonyere Electoral Area, who was there to support the submission of the form, spoke on behalf of the rest of the assembly members and pledged their support to the MP.
“On behalf of the assembly members, we declare our full support to Dorcas Affo-Toffey for we know she is the hope of Jomoro.”
