The December edition of the Luv FM Blood donation has collected 116 pints of blood for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) blood bank.
This edition which is the last blood donation drive for the year attracted both regular and first-time donors to the forecourt of the LUV FM premises on Saturday.
The regular blood donation campaign, in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Service, is to help stock the National Blood Bank.
Almost 120 pints of blood, were collected in the drive to stock the Blood Bank during the exercise.
Some of the donors were happy at the opportunity to donate blood to save lives.
One of the donors, Issah Baba, who has donated blood for fifty times, encouraged the public to voluntarily donate blood.
“People should come and donate because it’s good because I know from now to the next four months, I’m healthy. I’ve checked HIV status, syphilis, hapititis and many others so for now I’m ok. It’s a form of check up so I’m on everyone to voluntarily come and donate for their own good. Because they are helping somebody and also helping themselves,” he stated.
Another, a first time donor, Gillian from kokoso said, “it’s very good to save a life and I’ve not felt any bad effect so far and now I’ve checked my BP, HIV status and a lot of things so it’s very good.”
Blood donor recruitment officer at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Benjamin Aheng, says the voluntary blood drives are important in meeting the needs of patients in need of blood transfusion.
“The blood stock at the blood bank is very low so we’re encouraging people to come in their numbers to come and donate since the blood bank is very dry as I speak especially the O positive which is in high demand which ends up letting many people to lose their lives,” he said
He appreciated the commitment of donors to help save lives.
Organizers were impressed with the turnout despite the rains.
“It has been fantastic so far. Comparatively it’s better than the previous one,” Luv FM’s Assistant Event and Promotion Officer, Bright Atter, stated.
This blood donation exercise is part of Luv FM’s corporate social media responsibility initiatives. It is organised in collaboration with the KATH Blood Bank.
