Gold has since 1897 been mined at Obuasi, yet the Obuasi Township lacks the needed development typical of a mining town, and cannot be compared to Johannesburg in South Africa, in terms of infrastructural development.

Odeneho Kofi Appianin Ennin, Independent Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi West Constituency, has promised to change the narrative to bring Obuasi at par with cities like Johannesburg.

Kwaku Kwarteng (NPP), Faustilove Appiah Kannin (NDC) and Odeneho Appianin Ennin are contesting the Obuasi West Constituency Seat.

Speaking at a major health walk and campaign launch, Mr. Appianin Ennin said under his policies titled: “My Road Map For The Journey to foster growth, uplift lives and build Obuasi Communities for brighter future,” the town will witness massive infrastructural development.

On roads, he pledged to advocate for extensive construction of feeder roads to ensure that farmers can transport their produce to the urban centres without much difficulty.

Touching on sports, Odeneho Appianin Ennin said he would ensure that the newly formed Ashanti Gold FC is highly motivated to secure division one slot in the shortest possible time.

He stated that the entire Obuasi Township and by extension Adansi has become dull since AngloGold SC was suspended by the GFA for match fixing scandal, and said everything possible will be done to bring the club to the Premier League.

On Women Empowerment, the Independent Parliamentary Candidate noted that he had already doled out over GHc2 million interest free loans to about 2,000 women and hopes to do more when given the mandate.

On child health, he said he will establish a fund to take care of children with serious conditions, pointing out that a healthy community is a thriving community.

Touching on Small-Scale Mining, Mr. Appianin Ennin said he will lead a team to negotiate with AngloGold to hand over some of their abandoned pits to the community.
