The Ashanti Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), together with Lawyer Chapman Zigah, have secured bail at the Ashanti regional Police Headquarters for the Manhyia South Constituency Organiser, Mustapha Alhassan.

Mustapha Alhassan has been charged with offensive conduct, conducive to the breach of peace and threat of death.

He would have to report back to the police on Monday February 26, 2024 after Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, Isham Yaw Alhassan Bonsu and Dr. Amoakohene, Regional Chairman, Organiser and Secretary respectively, stood surety for the accused.

According to the police, Mustapha Alhassan threatened in a video, which has gone viral on social media, that the NDC has no choice than to kill anyone who would attempt to rig the election and deny them victory in the 2024 general elections.

Following this threat, Mustapha Alhassan was invited by the police, through the Ashanti Regional Executives of the opposition NDC to help the police in their investigations.

The NDC regional leadership responded and led the party organiser to the police and was interrogated over an hour, before being granted bail to report on Monday February 26, 2024.

Lawyer Chapman Zigah, Counsel for the accused, after securing the bail, explained that the suspect claimed he made those remarks in response to an argument he encountered with one of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) members, who said that even if the NPP loses power in the 2024 general elections, they would not hand over to the opposition NDC.

According to him, one Emmanuel Assafuah, of the NPP, stated that if the unfortunate should happen and they lose the elections, the NPP would “steal the verdict” and would not hand over power to the NDC.

This, the lawyer said, compelled the NDC Manhyia South Constituency Organiser to caution the NPP counterpart that if the NPP attempt to overturn the verdict after losing the elections, the NDC would not hesitate to kill and take back power as a last resort.
