The Ghana Police Service has arrested suspect Fatawu Ibrahim, alias Fatawu Motorway, in connection with the disturbances that occurred between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Mamobi, in Accra, on October 13, 2024.
Fatawu Motorway, who was declared wanted some days ago, was captured in video footage carrying a gun during the disturbances. He is currently in police custody and will be put before the court in due course.
The case is being prosecuted by the Office of the Attorney General.
It would be recalled that on Sunday, October 13, 2024 there was a clash between supporters of the NPP and the NDC, which resulted in two persons being allegedly shot, with four severely injured. The incident happened during a keep-fit walk which was initially intended to be a peaceful event.
The keep-fit walk, which both parties typically organise every weekend, as part of their campaign activities, ended abruptly when a group of motorbike riders from one side, encountered the supporters from the other side.
During the clash, one of the party supporters allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired several shots. Two of the injured victims were rushed to the Police Hospital, while four others were treated at the Mamobi General Hospital.
The altercation reportedly began over a dispute as to which group would pass through a particular route, but it escalated into violence.
The police acted swiftly to bring the situation under control and initiated efforts to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the unrest.
Following the incident, the Ghana Police Service declared a manhunt for suspect Fatau Motorway, who was believed to be involved in the shooting incident.
However, in a press statement issued on Monday, October 21, 2024 the police confirmed that one suspect has already been arrested in connection with the incident.
To encourage the public to assist in the search, the police placed a ¢20,000 bounty for any information leading to the arrest of Fatau Motorway.
