The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged traditional rulers and their subjects to work to preserve the rich Ghanaian culture as a legacy for generations unborn.
Dr. Bawumia made the call over the weekend when he joined the chiefs and people of Anlo to celebrate this year’s Hogbetsotso festival.
His admonishment followed what he described as rich culture, seeing other chiefs from Asante, Ga, and Kwahu join the Awomefia to commemorate the Hogbetsotso za.
Dr. Bawumia also commended the Awoamefia, Togbe Sri II, as well as the Chiefs and people of Anlo, for sustaining the Hogbetsotso Festival all these years, urging further that the festival, and other rich culture of the Anlo and others states in the country, should continue to be preserved as a legacy for unborn generations.
The Vice President also used the occasion to address the current high cost of living, resulting from the global economic crisis, assuring that government is doing all it can to resolve the issues.
While commenting on the economy and its challenges,
Dr. Bawumia also highlighted the numerous projects, policies and social interventions the NPP Government has been able to deliver in the past six years.
BEST PERFORMING GOVERNMENT
According to the Vice President, irrespective of the global economic turmoil, no government in the history of this 4th Republic can match the singular achievements of the ruling NPP.
Dr Bawumia went on to list some of these achievements.
“It is important to note however amidst all of this turmoil, we should put things in perspective.
The government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, over the last six years has taken many steps to reposition and transform the economy.
So whilst we have hardships today, which we are working very hard to alleviate – and Insha Allah we would deal with them – let’s not forget what we have been able to do in the last six years.
“Let me recall that our government in the last six years has created more jobs than any other government in the 4th Republic,” the Veep continued to loud cheers.
“Let me recall that we have constructed more roads than any other government in the 4th republic…built more interchanges than any other government in the 4th Republic.
Let me say we have built more airports than any other government, more railways than any other government, we have built more classrooms than any other government in the 4th Republic.
We have constructed more fish landing sites than any other government in the 4th Republic,”
This year’s celebration is on the theme: “60 years of Anlo Hogbetsotso Za: Uniting for development, sustaining our unique cultural commonwealth for future generations.”
OTUMFUO
Delivering his address, the Asantehene recalled the strong relationship between the Asantes and the Anlos, dating back to over a century, and culminating in a suburb in the heart of Kumasi called Anloga.
The Asantehene noted that political machinations have threatened this relationship, thereby creating needless suspicion among the two groups.
He therefore, called for the strengthening of the relationship to promote the rich culture of the two ethnic groups, and for the benefit of the nation.
