The District 9102 of the Rotary Club has donated a medical mobile van to the Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta Region.

The van worth $200,000 was procured with funding from the service organisation’s Global Grant.

It would augment outreach services of the health facility by extending care to clients right in the comfort of their communities, across the region.

The President of Rotary Club’s District 9102, Victor Yaw Asante, said the van was provided to make available an essential tool in ensuring universal health coverage in Ghana.

He explained that the vehicle, which is modelled to support surgical sessions, has to be periodically maintained to ensure it achieves its objective.

“It is very important that we maintain it and make sure that it keeps driven. Once we see its impact then we can ask other donors and so on to come and be part of this process”, he said.

The Ho Teaching Hospital Director of Health Service, Dr Lord Mensah, said the medical mobile van has come at an opportune time when the Hospital is strategizing to meet the demands of clients.

He said not only would the van help extend services to clients, but could be used as a treatment station on the premises.

He detailed that it is equipped to provide a wide range of services including, eye services among others.

He added that the provision of the van would help the hospital to transfer knowledge to staff of satellite facilities in the region.

“We will go and see some of the cases that they are treating and we will teach them how to manage the cases to reduce the number of bad cases that come to us”, he said.
