THE Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuaem in the Western Region, George Mireku Duker, on Monday, the Boxing Day, feted over 500 widows in the constituency. All the widows also went home with hampers and an undisclosed sums of money.
Though it has become an annual ritual for the legislator to celebrate Christmas with widows in his constituency, this year’s one appeared different looking at the number of widows who thronged the venue for the celebration.
Electoral Coordinators in each of the electoral areas in the constituency were tasked to present ten widows and at the end of the compilation, over 500 widows had made the list for the MP Christmas celebration. The widows who could not make it to the venue had their hampers and envelope sent to them.
Speaking to the widows, Duker encouraged them to have strong faith in God. He said, as a legislator, he could not have celebrated Christmas without remembering them (widows).“I cannot celebrate Christmas with my family whilst I know you are there,” he said.
Present at the gathering were the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ben Kesse, Obaahema Abena Boaduwa II, Apintohema, Nana Adjoa Kyere, Tarkwa Na Aboso Hemaa, the regional Director of Ghana Education Service, the regional chairman of the NPP, Ndede Siah and other party executives.
