The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has called on the Church and Ghanaians as a whole to vote for the party of their choice in the December 7 elections and afterwards rally behind the Ghana Flag.
“The Ghana Flag is a symbol of our nationality, patriotism and unity. Let it remind us of our responsibility to be vessels for God, ensuring peace, security, law and order, so future generations will commend us for not disappointing them,” he said.
Dr Dampare said this when he and other senior police officers led various teams to tour some churches in Accra and the regions to drum home the need to ensure peace before, during and after the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The IGP advised the Christian community to always back their prayers for peace with action, reminding them that prayers without action was meaningless.
“Our prayers should be backed by actions; either than that, it is meaningless. Dedicate yourselves for God to use you to answer your prayers,” he said.
“If we are to take our time and count our many blessings and name them one by one, we would be very surprised at how far God has brought us as a country and as a people, for which we have to be eternally grateful,” he added.
Dr Dampare commended the leadership of various churches and their congregations, Ghanaians in general for their contributions towards maintaining law and order from the beginning of the election period up to date.
“The way we have allowed ourselves to be used as vessels by the good Lord in conducting ourselves in a manner that has led to a situation where so far, with all the election processes, we have not heard anything disturbing from a security point of view, is remarkable and commendable,” the IGP said.
He encouraged the Christian community to remain agents of peace in their homes, neighbourhoods and the country at large, urging them not to allow themselves to be used for violence.
Dr Dampare also called on the church and the generality of Ghanaians to partner with the Police by acting as their eyes and ears, by sharing information that has the potential to threaten the peace and security of the nation.
